The steerer tube adapter is a safety-relevant component on Rose bikes with a D-shaped steerer tube. It ensures even surface clamping between the steerer tube and the one-piece cockpit and enables clean, aerodynamic cable routing. Correct installation is crucial for safe steering behaviour and a precisely adjusted headset.
In this service article, we show you step by step how to fit the steerer tube adapter correctly.
Please read the instructions on the hanger card attached to the cockpit carefully. Correct installation of the steerer tube adapter is essential for the safety and performance of your bike.
The steerer tube adapter is supplied in a black and a silver version. These differ slightly in their dimensions. The adapter that best suits your setup is already pre-assembled.
• Loosen the top cap screw completely by turning it anti-clockwise using a 4 mm hex wrench.
• Then remove the top cap and bolt from the steerer tube.
• Remove the transport aid together with the one-piece cockpit from the steerer tube.
• Be careful not to lose the steerer tube adapter, as it may be loose.
• Loosen the cockpit screws slightly so that the transport aid can be moved.
• Then remove the transport aid from the one-piece cockpit.
• Place the one-piece cockpit on the steerer tube and fix the fork on the underside with the other hand.
• Make sure that it is aligned with the fork and fully seated.
• Position the steerer tube adapter over the gap between the steerer tube and the cockpit. The bevelled side must point downwards.
• Now press the adapter down with even pressure until it is fully seated. The seat is intentionally very tight to ensure optimum surface clamping.
• If necessary, you can use the transport aid to press the adapter down evenly.
• Replace the top cap and tighten the screw with a max. torque of 2 Nm until the headset play is set correctly.
• The handlebars should then be easy to turn without any noticeable play between the cockpit and frame.
• You can find additional information on setting the headset in the separate tutorial “Adjusting the headset".
• Align the handlebars once again straight to the fork.
• Tighten the cockpit screws evenly with a torque spanner. The maximum torque is 4 Nm.
Once the bike is fully assembled, place it on the ground and check once again that the handlebars can be turned easily and without play and that they are aligned with the wheel.
If you are unsure or notice play, noise or unusual resistance, you should have the assembly checked at your Rose Store or by a qualified specialist workshop.
