A road bike is primarily designed for use on tarmac and paved roads. Typical features are narrow tyres, a low weight and a strongly bent riding position. This enables high speeds and efficient power transfer. Road bikes are ideal for endurance training, sporty tours and competitions.
Compared to a road bike, a gravel bike is not quite as fast on the road, but is more versatile off-road. For more off-road potential, it has wider tyres, a more upright riding position and more stable handling. Gravel bikes are therefore ideal if you want to go fast off-road, for example on gravel, dirt paths or forestry tracks.
