Aligning the brake caliper

Do your brakes rub when you're riding? Find out here how to adjust them.

You need

  • Hex wrench (fits the brake caliper mounting bolts – usually 5 mm)

Control by eye

  • Park your bike securely – either upside down or on a bike stand
  • Turn the wheel and check whether the brake disc runs smoothly between the brake pads or if it's rubbing

If your brake disc isn't centered

  • Loosen the two screws on the brake caliper slightly so that the brake caliper can be moved sideways.
  • Push the brake lever all the way down, as if you were going to brake
  • Keep the brake lever pressed
  • Tighten the two screws on the brake caliper again, and then release the brake lever
  • Make sure the brake caliper does not warp when tightening it.
Turn the wheel again and check to see if the brake disc is now running freely. If not, repeat the process.
